Frio Eye Care came from the passion of one intelligent hard-working man, Dr. Richard A. Frio. It all started after he graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1971 with a Bachelors of Science. After undergrad, he went on to get another Bachelors degree and an Optometric Degree (O.D.) from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

During his 44 years of private practice experience, he become a member of the American Optometric Association, the NYS Optometric Association, Central New York Optometric Association, and the North Syracuse - Liverpool Lions Club.

He was recognized for various achievements granted from the NYS Optometric Association, including Public Service Awards for the Give One Day program and for the Special Olympics Opening Eyes Program.

From 1975 to 1980, He worked for Dr. Jerome Brislin in North Syracuse. Throughout those five years, he gained a lot of experience and knowledge as a doctor. He then decided it was time to open an independent practice. In the late 1980s, Frio Eye Care was opened and ready to take patients.

His daughter, Bridget A. Frio, began working side by side with her father in June 2009. After 15 years, she took over both our Central Square and Chittenango locations when he retired in late 2024. If you are interested in learning more about her optometric background, head to the top page and click 'STAFF.'
