Professional Optometry

The mission of the profession of optometry is to fulfill the vision and eye care needs of the public through clinical care, research, and education, all of which enhance the quality of life.

Doctors of Optometry/Optometrists (O.D.) are the primary health care professionals for the eye. They are trained to examine, diagnose, treat and manage disorders that affect the eye or vision. In addition to the comprehensive health exam, they can provide presciptions for spectacle lenses, fit contacts and prescribe medication.   Much emphasis is spent learning and concentrating specifically on the structure, function and disorders of the eye prior to earning a  degree. In addition to being the experts on eye and vision diseases and disorders, doctors of optometry have the education and training to diagnose the ocular manifestations of diseases that affect the entire body, such as diabetes and hypertension. They also are qualified to evaluate their patients for surgery when appropriate and often manage their patients’ care both pre- and post-operatively.

Spectacles

Our opticians are heavily trained to help decide what glasses styles work best with your face shape, coloring and personal style. We will educate you and help choose your lens options for stellar appearance and performance. Our frame vendors are all small independent fashion-forward companies (Ogi, ProDesign, Seraphin)

Opticians are licensed technicians heavily trained to design, measure, fit, and adapt eyeglasses, frames and contact lenses for clients according to an optical prescription by ophthalmologists or optometrists.

Ophthalmologists (M.D.) are physicians who have completed a residency and specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders and diseases of the eye. They can perform eye examinations, are licensed to prescribe medication and write glasses prescriptions, as well as perform ocular surgery.
